Edward A. Morse

Professor of Law, holds the McGrath, North, Mullin & Kratz endowed chair in Business Law. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Drake University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Prior to joining the Creighton faculty, he was law clerk for the Honorable Deanell R. Tacha of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and he was associated with the law firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. He is admitted to the bars of Nebraska and Georgia (now inactive), and he holds a CPA certificate in Iowa.

His scholarship focuses on taxation, trade, technology, and regulation.  
Recent tax scholarship includes an article on Whistleblowers and Tax Enforcement.  Interdisciplinary work on in the gaming area includes Governing Fortune: Casino Gambling in America (University of Michigan Press 2007) (co-authored with Dr. Ernie Goss, COBA), which addresses economic, social, and regulatory dimensions of gambling enterprises.  His articles on Internet gambling have been published in international journals and commentary has appeared in the Economist, NPR Marketplace, and other media outlets. Recent interdisciplinary work with Dr. Vasant Raval (COBA) explores the intersection between legal standards, private ordering, and technology in the payment card industry.  He has also served on the Nebraska Attorney General's Task Force on Motor Fuel Pricing, which published its report on the competitive conditions in the petroleum industry in 2006.

He speaks regularly on topics related to his research, including the annual program of Important Developments in Federal Income Taxation at the Great Plains Tax Institute.  Other recent presentations have included the ABA Business Law Section in Vancouver, BC (Spring 2009); National Taiwan University (Fall 2008); “Closing the Tax Gap” Symposium at Stanford (Fall 2008); Legal Security & Privacy Issues in IT Law in Prague (Fall 2008); and the Ankara Bar Association’s International Law Congress  (January  2008).
