NEBRASKA

This collection is a comprehensive collection of material dedicated to the State of Nebraska. Materials included in this collection are legislative, administrative and judicial items as well as classified treatise and NCLE material. The treatise material is arranged using the Library of Congress call number scheme KFN 1-599.

 

 

 

 

REFERENCE

The Reference collection, located behind the Reference desk, contains material readily available for answering straight forward reference questions. Included in this collection are directories and statistical material.

 

 

 

 

 

INDEX-REF

The Index-Ref area houses several distinct collections. One collection contains various indexes to legal materials and dictionaries. Another collection is the librarys video collection. Many of the videos in this collection pertain to trial practice. Another collection in Index-Ref is the library's Popular Movie Collection. The DVDs in this collection are law-related movies, many are classics. There is also a collection of Self-Help Guides from Nolo Press.

 

 

 

RESERVES

The Reserves collection is a closed collection containing items put on reserve by faculty and some of the most current Nebraska Continuing Legal Education materials, and Nebraska formbooks. For assistance with the Reserve collection please see the circulation staff.

 

 

 

 

 

SHELVES

The majority of the librarys classified collection is housed in the location SHELVES. Materials are shelved using the Library of Congress call number scheme, which arranges books by subject matter. The majority of the collection is classified in the KF call number, which stands for American Law. The KF call number range is further broken down into specific subject areas. Creighton Law Library Subject Guide to Call Numbers is a guide to those subject areas. The call numbers KF156 to Z are on the upper level of the law library.

 

 

 

UNCLASSED

Unclassed is the location where the library's unclassified collection is housed. Materials are shelved by jurisdiction and then alphabetically within the jurisdiction. Included in this collection are Federal Reporters, Statutes, and Administrative material; the National Reporter System; Digests; Encyclopedias and ALRs.

 

 

 

 

HISTORICAL

Located on the upper level, houses historical state and federal statutes. State Statutes are arranged alphabetically. The library retains all prior editions of Nebraska and federal statutes.

 

 

 

 

 

READING ROOM

Current state statutes are housed in the library's Reading Room. Statutes are arranged alphabetically. Also located in the Reading Room is the librarys collection of current newspapers and magazines.

 

 

 

 

 

RAREBOOK

The Rare Book Room, located in the Reading Room, is comprised of approximately 750 books and a variety of documents. The collection is primarily British legal texts and treatises from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The collection contains the classics of British legal jurisprudence from Bracton, Littleton, Coke and Blackstone to name a few. Access to the collection is by appointment only.

 

 

 

 

MICROFORM

Various materials have been published on microfiche or microfilm. Included in this collection are Nebraska and Federal legislative materials, United States Supreme Court Records & Briefs, state session laws, superseded state statutes, 19th Century Legal Treatises, and state bar journals.

 

 

 

 

LOWER READING ROOM

The Lower Reading Room contains the study aids collection from the following series: Nutshells, Hornbooks, Concise Hornbooks, Concepts & Insights, Examples & Explanations, the Understanding Series, the Glannon Guide, the Inside Series, Mastering Series and Questions & Answers.  

 

 

 

 

PERIODICAL

Located on the lower level, Periodical is where the librarys collection of Law Reviews and other Journals are housed. The periodicals are arranged alphabetically by journal title.
