Women’s History Month events
During the entire month of March:
· The History of Women in Higher Education Poster Display
Posters will be displayed in the windows of Reinert Alumni Library showing the history of women in higher education
Display put together by L.C. Women’s History Month Intern Shayla Covington
· Fun facts about women’s history and inspirational quotes sent out daily through Twitter @CULiebenCenter and re-tweeted by @BlueJayLife

March 1 - Women’s Words of Wisdom
Coordinated by the Lieben Center with help from Women & Gender Studies - 7:30pm in Harper Auditorium
Women’s Words of Wisdom is the kick-off to Women’s History Month. With this event, we hope to educate and empower the Creighton community through the stories of inspiring and influential women throughout history. This celebration includes voices from Creighton students, faculty, and staff sharing about a diverse range of women that inspire them.
March 13 - Nebraska’s Winding Road to Statehood: In the Footsteps of a Female Settler
Sponsored by the Reinert Alumni Library - 4pm in U.P. Room
Barbara Kagi Mayhew Bradway, a female settler, recounts the issues of Nebraska’s territorial days. In a first-person portrayal, Sara Crook recounts Bradway’s impressions as an early permanent white settler. She also explores the Underground Railroad. Bradway was the older sister of John Kagi, who was a close confidant to John Brown.
March 23 - Women at Work in a Man’s World: Women’s Success and Women’s Struggles
Sponsored by COBA - 12:30pm in Skutt Ballroom East
This program will include a panel of women that work in traditionally male dominated business fields. Desserts and beverages will be provided. Panelists include: Stacey M. Taylor - Vice President Non-Commodity Ingredient Procurement, ConAgra Foods ; Cara Persichetti, JET Program Planner, Intelligence and Information Systems, Raytheon Company; Angela Ullman, Senior Marketing, Engineering Industry; Brian Ullman, Project Manager, Financial Software & Service Industry
March 26 - Miss Representation showing
Sponsored by the Lieben Center - 7pm in Harper Auditorium
Due to strong support from the first showing and many requests for another opportunity to watch the film, we will be doing an additional open showing of the documentary Miss Representation, followed by a discussion afterwards led by Lieben Center Programming Intern Gillian Fitzpatrick
March 26 - 10th Annual Women and Religion Lecture featuring Carol Meyers with Discovering Eve
Sponsored by Women & Gender Studies - 7pm in Harper 3023, Sponsored by WGS
Professor Meyers holds the Mary Grace Wilson Professorship in Religion at Duke University, where she has taught since 1977. A specialist in biblical studies and archaeology, she is a prominent scholar in the study of women in the biblical world. Her book Discovering Eve is a landmark study of women in ancient Israel; and her recent reference book, Women in Scripture, is the most comprehensive study ever made of women in Jewish and Christian scriptures.
March 28 - Let’s Get This Straight: Celebrating Women of Diverse Genders and Sexual Orientations
Sponsored by GSA - 6pm in Skutt 105
Following a brief presentation, a discussion will be lead by Creighton students. The discussion will cover topics regarding women who identify all across the spectrums of gender and sexuality.
March 29 - Courageous Voices: Navigating the Waves, Women of Color and Feminism
Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs - 6pm in Harper 3006 - OMA Office
This discussion will focus on the intricate bond existing between Women of Color and feminism throughout its existence. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Lieben Center will be presenting some background on the feminist movement to begin the discussion. More details to come.
March 30 - Networking For Success
Coordinated by the Lieben Center, CSW, Alumni Relations and the Career Center - 3:30-5pm
Start building strong networking relationships before you even leave Creighton! Networking for Success is an opportunity for female undergraduate students that will help coach you on skills to be a better networker and give you the opportunity to practice while connecting with Creighton faculty, staff and alumni in a fun way. This event will help you:
*Create and work on your elevator speech
*Learn how to find deeper connections with people you just met
*Understand how to reach out to or strengthen relationships with mentors
*Practice your skills with a speed networking program in Billy Blue’s

Sign-up to join the Lieben Center and Student Activities for the Wareham Program, our women's leadership development program geared for sophomores and juniors. Eileen's Book Club
Our pick for Fall 2011 is The Help by Kathryn Stockett and will be in collaboration with the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Sign-up begins on October 10th to get your FREE copy of the book. The discussion will be hosted on the OMA on Sunday, November 13th.
2nd Annual Blanket Making for the Juan Diego Center
Donate your time and energy instead of money to bring about the Christmas spirit! On Friday of dead week, December 9th, we'll provide the supplies to make tie fleece blankets to donate to the women and children of the Juan Diego Center.
