Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging in Medicine

Become the Change You Want to See.

We develop doctors who become leaders committed to serve!

An Inclusive Education for a More Diverse World

Creighton University has provided exceptional educational opportunities to students from all over the world since 1878. With every new generation of School of Medicine student leaders comes a unique opportunity to grow and adapt.

This is why we have established the School of Medicine Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging – so that no student, faculty, or community lack representation, or has their voice go unheard.

The Four Rs of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

Research shows consistently that a more diverse culture empowers greater higher education opportunities, decision-making, and problem-solving. With the private sector already emphasizing the critical need for DIB programs, it only makes sense that education is at the forefront of such development.

Four pillars are used at Creighton University School of Medicine to facilitate this process. The Four Pillars are:

Research

Evidence-based decisions are made to shape the healthy growth of our Omaha and Phoenix campuses into more inclusive and diverse academic communities.

Relational

A premium is placed on using personal connections in programming, recruitment, and retention to strengthen the relationship with the diverse stake holders in our academic medical family.

Responsiveness

Showing support for all involved in distressing cross-cultural experiences by being responsive to their needs, awareness, and future interactions.

Respect

Treating everybody with respect and unconditional positive regard. That means accepting individuals in the way that they are with dignity and without judgment.

We promote diversity within the School of Medicine through our various initiatives

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging actively pursues efforts to promote diversity within the School of Medicine through various pathway programs and featured efforts.

The program invites 4th-12th grade first-generation, rural, Native American, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and underrepresented students, to learn about careers in the health field and the process of applying to medical school.

We intentionally focus on attracting applicants to the Medical Education Program whose parents have not completed a 4-year degree (bachelor’s degree) at an institution within the United States or Canada.
