About Donna Marie McGargill, OSM

If you are a lover of circles, I guess you could say that becoming part of these wonderful Ministry Teams at CU/St. John’s is sort of coming full circle for me, especially at this time of the completion of this most recent and marvelous renovation process of St. John’s Church.

A native of Omaha, Ne, I was baptized, made first communion, and was confirmed here at St. John’s, and most of my 5 brothers and one sister and other relatives went through school here until moving to Holy Angels in North Omaha. As a Graduate of Marian High School, I entered the Servants of Mary and eventually got my BA in English from Duchesne College here in Omaha and my BA and MA in Church Music and Liturgy from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. I have ministered as a teacher and in many liturgical and music capacities in Schools, Parishes, a National Shrine and a Cathedral setting in Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Oregon. My most recent ministries have been the past five years as Coordinator of Liturgy and Music here at our Motherhouse/Servite Center of Compassion, and previous to that for seven years as Director of Liturgy and Music as St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island, Nebraska.

I have music published OCP (Oregon Catholic Press) "Servant Song", and did a record album of my Marian Music done in Nashville for my Servite Community’s 750th Anniversary Celebration in the 80's. That album is now on cd form in our Motherhouse Servite Center of Compassion Bookstore.

Most of my music comes more from the heart of prayer than for any other reason, other than the enjoyment of playing, flute, 12 string, or pipe organ to enable others to give glory and praise to our loving God. The heart of my music used to come most, though, from singing, but since I have a paralyzed right vocal chord, that is no longer possible, so I use the rest of these precious gifts where ever they can be helpful in sharing the goodness of God.

I am excited about joining these ministry teams, and hope to bring the many and varied gifts and experiences I have had in life as a lover of JESUS, and music, and ritual, with compassionate presence and service in whatever forms are manifested in the life of the Church here in this sacred space and magnificent campus. JESUS and ‘you’ as you reveal yourself to me are what matters most to me in my life. May this journey, as we discover it together, be walked hand in hand, and heart in heart together, and mostly with the God who is a constant surprise to each of us in the process.
