About Craig Zimmer
As a Nebraska kid and Creighton alum, my roots in this state run deep and I am very excited to be returning home again! I grew up in Mason City, in rural central Nebraska, with my parents and four siblings. I grew up being outside a lot and, as a result, have a love of all things outdoors – photography, hiking, biking, camping, and just enjoying the sunset, the quiet, and the stars of a Nebraska night! After attending public school through elementary and high school, I came to Creighton and one of the most important things that I did was become a Campus Ministry Intern for two years, which set me on a path toward ministry as my vocation.
My undergraduate major was history, but I also had a theology co-major, and after I left Creighton I continued to veer more toward theology and ministry. I moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and began both working full time in Campus Ministry and pursuing a Master's Degree in Christian Doctrine at Marquette University.
My wife, Margaret, and I had a great four years in Wisconsin, but we wanted to move closer to our families, and were incredibly lucky to both land positions at Creighton. Margaret is now the Assistant Director for Greek Life in the Student Activities Office, so you have a decent chance of running into one of us around campus!
The majority of my campus ministry experience has been in retreats and I am very much looking forward to working with the retreat program at Creighton. Our lives are so busy and we live at such a breakneck pace, the opportunity to take a step back and enter more intentionally and deeply into some of the big questions that confront us as children of God seems to be becoming both more rare and more important. I look forward to walking with you along that journey of reflection and discovery in the years ahead!
Oh, and fall is my favorite season, and football is part of that. Just to be clear: Go Huskers and Go Packers!
