Creighton University

As a diocesan parish and the church of Creighton University, St. John's will respect the wedding requests of parishioners registered for six months, students, alumni, faculty, and staff of Creighton University, and sons/daughters of Creighton University graduates. All requests will be handled according to availability of times, and on a first come, first serve basis.

The marriage preparation process is an eight-month minimum; eight months to a year is ideal. (If a previous marriage is involved, additional time is required.)

FOCCUS is an excellent marriage preparation process in which engaged couples participate as they prepare for their life journey together. FOCCUS was created to address current issues and needs in the couple's relationship as they prepare for marriage.

Contacting the parish/church in which they wish to celebrate their marriage in order to tentatively set the date for their marriage (Please contact Kathleen Denne at kdenne@creighton.edu, (402) 280-2975 for information regarding marriages scheduled at St. John’s Church.)

Contacting the priest, deacon or marriage preparation coordinator of parish to obtain the information and registration form for the marriage preparation process.

Next, the engaged couple chooses to attend a Pre-Session to complete the FOCCUS Inventory, learn about the entire range of educational programs, and participate in a communication skills presentation.

Each couple then schedules individual follow-up sessions with the Marriage Preparation Chaplain or a priest in order to address the FOCCUS issues in depth.

In addition, each couple will attend an educational/experiential program, Engaged Encounter or When Families Marry.

Finally, each couple prepares their marriage liturgy with the priest celebrant for their wedding.
