Music Ministry during COVID-19 Response

Listen to playlists of repertoire from prayer at St. John's here!

Student liturgical ensembles this semester will continue as Christian Life Communities (CLC's) rooted in the charisms of music ministry and sung prayer! New students are welcome and encouraged to join returning choir members for social time, prayer, faith sharing, and some virtual choir opportunities. Please see the Parish Ensembles page for more information.

Choral and congregational singing during liturgies at St. John's are suspended for the time being. Current data suggests that singing together for the length of a liturgy greatly increases the risk of spreading Covid-19 via aerosol particles. The safety of our worshiping community, especially our most vulnerable members, is our top priority.

Want to stay in the know?

For Creighton students, join the Student Music Ministry List-serv! You'll get occasional information about auditions, University Liturgies, prayer services, and short-notice liturgies.

For Saturday 5pm & Sunday 10:30am ensembles, join the Music Ministry List-serv! You'll get weekly updates with the upcoming music selections and music ministry calendar, as well as occasional opportunities to sing at short-notice liturgies like funerals.

Contact Molly Mattingly, Director of Music Ministry, for more information on anything from this page or to schedule an audition time.

HOW DO I JOIN? See the Parish Mass Ensembles page for how to join each group. Contact Molly Mattingly, our Director of Music Ministry, with any questions.

To ask about joining Candlelight Choir, contact the student leaders.

But what if my schedule changes? It's easy for music ministers to switch groups, especially between the non-auditioned ensembles!

How do I find the St. John's music room? The music room is right behind the tabernacle. If you're facing the altar from the pews, go through the sacristy on your right or the resource room on your left. There's a small hallway connecting them behind the tabernacle, and that's where the door to the music room is!
