Catholic Social Teaching/Interfaith Worker Justice Summer Internship
Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ) calls upon our religious values in order to educate, organize, and mobilize the religious community in the U.S. on issues and campaigns that will improve wages, benefits, and working conditions for workers, especially low-wage workers.
Some opportunities through this Internship include:
- Develop a range of skills including advocacy, communications, coalition building, public policy, and social analysis
- Integrate principles and theories of religious teachings with hands-on experience of working for social change
- Collaborate with diverse, interfaith teams
- Witnessing and working with workers' struggles for justice in the workplace

Network: A Catholic Social Justice Lobby
Some possible jobs while working with Network include researching public policy, data entry, writing, attending activities and events, working on interfaith coalitions, mentoring, and working with current issues. These current issues include the economy, the environment, immigration, healthcare, and war and peace. Skills necessary for this job include research skills especially online research and writing skills. Also, the student should be a motivated, committed, self-starter.
There is no specific timeline set up, however this will be a 10 week commitment. There is no provided housing as of now, however there are contacts established with people in the D.C. area and there are housing opportunities there.

Columban Center for Advocacy and Outreach
The Columban Center for Advocacy and Outreach represents Columban missionaries, Catholic men and women who work with and serve the poor around the world. Through advocacy, solidarity, and education the CCAO is dedicated to raising the peace, social justice and ecology concerns of Columban missioners and the people with whom we live and serve.
While not a pre-requisite the following background and skills are helpful:
- Work in Latin America or Asia (course work or volunteer work)
- Activism in justice, peace, and environmental issues
- Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching
- Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
- Knowledge of Spanish, Chinese, or Korean languages
- Editing and website design
- Experience working with or active participation in faith communities
Possible Projects for Interns and Volunteers:
- Research social justice and peace issues affecting Columban missionaries
- Attend Congressional hearings, briefings and events on the Hill
- Attend and debrief staff on network meetings
- Contribute to monthly newsletter; write action alerts and letters to Congress.
- Assist with administrative tasks.
