"Living Stones and Sacred Space"

It’s happening…Halleluiah!

The Renewal of the Living Stones and Sacred Space of our beloved St. John’s Church is going to be a reality.  We, as the St. John’s Parish Family, along with Creighton University are committed to maintaining the rich heritage of St. John’s while moving ahead to enhance its beauty and liturgical significance for years to come.

Throughout this process, we will be using these Updates in the Parish Newsletter and on the St. John’s web site to keep everyone informed as to our progress.

Most of the work to be done involves dealing with the infrastructure of the church building to prepare it to be used by our grandchildren’s great-grandchildren. We exercise our stewardship in very small and practical ways.

Phase 1

We are in the process of getting bids to begin replacing the heating and air conditioning system in St. John’s.  Ideally that project will begin in approximately three months and is scheduled to be completed by November of 2006.

Phase 2

The masonry restoration on the exterior of St. John’s should begin in June, 2006.  This portion of the overall project should take approximately three to four months to complete. You will begin to see scaffolding put up around the church beginning this summer. We are working with CU Facilities Department who are now putting out bids. The plan is to inflict as little inconvenience on the use of the church as possible. But, the best laid plans…

Phase 3

A St. John’s Group of Parishioners is still processing feedback from the larger community regarding a final floor plan to best serve the liturgical life of the parish. When this process is complete and the architect’s drawings are finished, they will be available for all to see.  The earliest any painting, electrical, carpentry, lighting, pulling up the carpet, work on the floor, etc…would begin is January 2007.
