Imad Alsakaf

Photo of Imad AlsakafDr. Alsakaf was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. He graduated from the University of Damascus School of Medicine. After completing a psychiatry residency program in Syria, he worked as a psychiatrist in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where most of his work was in addiction treatment. He joined our residency program in August 2006. His professional interests include addiction psychiatry, mood disorders and personality disorders. He enjoys swimming, playing tennis and reading philosophy and poetry.

Kristen Freier

Photo of Kristen FreierDr. Freier was born and raised in Waukon, a small city in Northeast Iowa. She graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine. She has been married for three years now and has a two year old daughter. She is currently the president of our Psychiatry Residents’ Organization. Her professional interests include addiction psychiatry and also working with patients who have intellectual disabilities. Starting in July 2010, she will be working as a general adult psychiatrist in La Crosse, Wisconsin, practicing both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry. Looking back on her time in our residency program, she believes that one of the strongest characteristics is the residents. She has enjoyed working with her colleagues and has felt that she could always rely on them. She in turn has been inspired to support them as well.

Shannon Kinnan

Dr. Kinnan is a proud Nebraskan who grew up in the Omaha area. She went to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for her undergraduate studies and participated in the Humanities in Medicine scholarship program, completing a major in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. She spent a semester abroad in Xalapa, Mexico, where she fell in love with learning about other cultures. During medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, she organized Spanish courses, participated on medical mission trips, and was also the president of the psychiatric interest group. In our residency program, she has served as an Associate Chief Resident and currently serves as our Chief Resident. Her professional interests include medical student education, Hispanic mental health care, and clinical research in schizophrenia. In her free time, she plays sand volleyball, coaches a six-year-old girls’ soccer team, and stays involved in her church.
