ERAS Application Requirements:
- ERAS Common Application Form
- Complete Personal Statement
- Curriculum Vitae listing in detail all U.S. or foreign psychiatry experience
- Three letters of recommendation, U.S. references preferred if available
- Letter of recommendation from the Dean of your current medical school
- Letter of recommendation from your current program director, if transferring from another program
- Official transcript from medical school
- Valid ECFMG certificate, if applicable
- USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 or COMLEX Level 1 or Level 2 scores, required
- Step 3 score, if available
- Current photograph
For U.S. graduates, the minimum eligibility requirements to enter the program include graduation from a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
A graduate of a foreign medical school must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
Additional criteria for applying for residency:
- Three letters of reference are required. Letters of reference should support your qualifications for a career in psychiatry. It is important to have American experience in psychiatry with a reference letter from that site. Letters from U.S. or Canadian physicians who have observed your professional performance are easier for us to verify; therefore, we encourage you to provide ERAS with the names of U.S. and Canadian physicians who know you professionally and personally.
- We prefer an average USMLE score of 80; however, if you show particular promise for a career in clinical psychiatry, we may accept somewhat lower scores. Candidates should not have more than two cumulative failures for USMLE 1 and 2.
- International medical graduates must be eligible for a J-1 visa. Effective 12/05/2011 the Creighton University Psychiatry Program will no longer sponsor the H-1B Visa for incoming physicians who are currently going through the Residency Match process for the upcoming 2012-13 academic year. International graduates without American citizenship cannot begin the program without acquiring a green card or J-1 visa.
- We are seeking candidates who have had relevant residency training or clinical responsibilities in the last three years. Unless the candidate has exceptional, demonstrated promise, candidates who have been away from formal training or the practice of medicine for more than three years are unlikely to be considered.
- Deadline for applications is December 15.
