Alegent Creighton Health-Creighton University Medical Center
The Creighton University Medical Center is a 400 plus bed acute care facility. CUMC provides state of the art care while serving as a setting for education and research programs. There are over 10,000 admissions and approximately 27,000 emergency department visits each year. This Level I trauma center offers advanced cardiology services, complete surgical services, including kidney transplantation, state of the art radiology services, and emergency care in a brand new emergency room.
CUMC is the training site for about 270 residents and fellows from accredited programs in anesthesiology, family practice, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, colorectal surgery, in addition to the internal medicine program and its related fellowships of allergy/immunology, cardiology, pulmonary/critical care, and infectious diseases.
Psychiatry residents rotate through CUMC during their primary care training months as well as for outpatient and consultation-liaison services.
Omaha VA Medical Center
This 398 bed facility provides primary and tertiary care to veterans from all over the state of Nebraska and western Iowa. Cases are referred to the Omaha VAMC from the VA hospitals in Lincoln and Grand Island, Nebraska, as well as Sioux City, Iowa and Hot Springs, South Dakota for specialized care. There is a large psychiatry service across a continuum of care.
The Omaha VAMC is shared as a training facility with the residents and fellows from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The VA is a training site for residents and fellows in anesthesiology, allergy/immunology, cardiology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, neurology, neurological surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pathology, psychiatry, pulmonary/critical care, diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, general surgery and urology.
Psychiatry residents rotate through the VA hospital for emergency psychiatry, inpatient, substance disorders, and outpatient services. They also provide on-call consultations in the admitting area.

Immanuel Medical Center
Immanuel Medical Center is part of Alegent Health, a preferred regional healthcare system with some $2B in annual medical services in Nebraska with seven hospitals, 35 primary care physician offices, 100 outpatient service centers, more than 7,500 associates and 1,500 physicians. Psychiatry residents rotate through Immanuel Hospital for inpatient, child and adolescent and geriatric services. They also provide on-call phone consultations for the emergency department.
The Nebraska Medical Center

As the teaching hospital for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, this 689 licensed bed academic medical center has an international reputation for providing solid organ and bone marrow transplantation services and is well known nationally and regionally for its oncology, neurology and cardiology programs. The Nebraska Medical Center was formed in October 1997 with the merger of Clarkson Hospital, Nebraska's first hospital, and University Hospital, the teaching hospital for the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).
Psychiatry residents rotate through UNMC during their primary care training months, emergency psychiatry, inpatient, geriatric, outpatient, and consultation-liaison services. They also provide on-call emergency room consultations in the brand new Level 1 trauma center emergency department.
Alegent Creighton Health Lasting Hope Recovery Center
The Lasting Hope Recovery Center (LHRC), a service of Alegent Health, is a 64-bed facility that has 24-hour Psychiatric Emergency Department for crisis assessments, acute care, triage center, and full-service laboratory. LHRC uses a strength-based care philosophy that offers an entire range of treatment and prevention services for those affected by mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. LHRC also incorporates evidence-based practices, such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Peer Support Specialists. The overall goal is to instill hope, a sense of possibility and to rebuild a positive self-image for patients and help them get back to their daily routine
Community organizations are co-located at the Lasting Hope Recovery Center including National Alliance on Mental Illness-Nebraska, The Salvation Army and Lutheran Family Services. Having these agencies on-site provides patients with a more seamless transition into the outpatient setting.
Psychiatry residents will have the opportunity to rotate through this enhanced mental health facility in July 2010.
Home Instead Center for Successful Aging
The three-story building is 31,425 square feet and is funded by $10.2 million in private donations. Services offered at The Home Instead Center for Successful Aging include:
- Geriatric medicine clinic
- Geriatric psychiatry clinic
- Clinical trial programs involving geriatric-specific disorders
- Community education and outreach center
- Fully equipped fitness and exercise area
- Wellness clinic for health screenings and nutrition services
- Gait and cognitive evaluations are some of the outpatient procedures that will be done in the center.
The new center creates physical space for both the division of geriatric medicine and geriatric psychiatry, while expanding research and patient care, improving education infrastructure and providing outreach facilities to enhance successful aging. Currently, there are eight geriatric physicians, five geriatric psychiatrists and one geriatric psychologist on faculty at UNMC.
