Dr. Basalay was born and raised in a small town in Illinois, and moved away to go to Creighton University where he received a degree in psychology. He worked in mental health care in Omaha for 4 years prior to medical school at a suicide prevention hotline and at Boys Town National Research Hospital in a treatment group home. He left Omaha to go to St. Maartin for medical school and returned for residency since he missed the friendly people. Heís a Husker football, Creighton basketball, and Chicago sports teams fan. He enjoys cooking, golfing, and chasing his goldendoodle around. He is considering a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Dr. Bhandari was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and moved to Ottawa, Canada with her family. After attending high school in Aurora, Ontario, she received her Bachelorís degree from the University of Toronto in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. She graduated from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine after completing clinical rotations in New York, Chicago, Louisiana, Atlanta, Toronto, Nova Scotia, and a Neuropsychiatry research in her hometown of Ottawa. Her special interest is in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In her free time, she loves running, swimming, and cooking.
Dr. Kent is a Nebraska boy through and through. Although he graduated high school in North Carolina, he was raised in Omaha, attended UNL (with a degree in Biochemistry) and most recently received his M.D. from UNMC. Joe is an avid outdoorsman, with interest ranging from fishing and mushroom hunting to camping, hiking, and canoeing. He also enjoys baseball, coaching little league and time with his family. Eventually he intends on pursuing a career in either Child and Adolescent or working within the Prison System.
Dr. Marwaha received her medical training from the University of Seychelles American institute of Medicine and graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Master of Public Health. During Medical school she did research on the evaluation and management of Delirium. She took psychiatric electives at Yale School of Medicine, where she worked in the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit and presented a few neuropsychiatric cases. At WKU she got the opportunity to work at Kelly Autism Program, where she did research in Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has enjoyed volunteering at the Juvenile Detention Center and the Commonwealth Health Free Clinic in Bowling Green Kentucky. She is interested in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as well as Neuropsychiatry. Her hobbies include travelling and exploring new places, reading, Zumba work out, and hanging out with friends.
Dr. Mertz grew up in South Dakota and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Psychology. During her time at USD she studied for a semester in Hawaii, and Chicago, and completed an internship in Atlanta. After graduation from college, she moved to Pierre, SD where she completed an HIV/AIDS epidemiology internship and then worked for the state as a Disease Intervention Specialist. She attended Des Moines University for medical school. She completed her clinical rotations in Toledo, Ohio where she met her fiance. When she moved to Nebraska for residency, it was the 7th state she lived in in the last nine years and she is hoping to make Omaha her home. She enjoys traveling and has completed five medical mission trips with Global Health Outreach. She is interested in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Dr. Sadat was born in Afghanistan and moved to the United States in 1999. She graduated from University of Nebraska Lincoln with a major in Psychology and thereafter from Creighton University School of Medicine. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a pharmacy technician for 4 years. She loves traveling and meeting people from different cultures, and speaks several languages including Hindi, Farsi, Pashto, and English. She has travelled to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, France, England, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Mexico. She absolutely loves dancing and watching movies. She is interested in either Child Psychiatry or Consult Psychiatry.
Dr. Smith grew up in Plainview, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2006 with a degree in psychology. Following undergraduate studies he performed research in ecology, evolution and behavior within the UNL department of biology. He then went on to complete medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His areas of interest are general adult and geriatric psychiatry with emphasis on telepsychiatry. Eventually he would like to provide psychiatric services to rural Nebraska communities. He spends much of his free time in the outdoors fishing, mushroom hunting, hiking, camping and scuba diving.
Dr. Sutton grew up in Lincoln, NE and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she studied International Studies. She attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and she is happy to be staying in Omaha for residency. Her hobbies include traveling, cooking, and eating out - Omaha has a great food scene for this. She spends her free time working on her new house and growing herbs and tomatoes.
