Based on the shortage of Nurse Faculty, The Nurse Reinvestment Act of 2003 authorized making loan funds available to Schools of Nursing to assist students pursuing full time study to prepare themselves as nurse educators. Loans are made available for the direct costs of tuition, registration and laboratory fees, and may include the costs of required books. No stipends are included (students who seek stipend awards to support some costs of living during full time study must apply separately for Nurse Traineeship funds).

Requirements:

  • Graduate nursing students must be enrolled full time in a master's or doctoral program of study to prepare themselves to teach in a school of nursing.
  • At Creighton, this includes the MS in Community Health Specialist/Educator option (CHS/ED) and the traditional FNP/ANP and CNS programs including the blended majors - as long as the student adds the additional educator option courses to the program of study for graduation and plans to teach in a school of nursing upon graduation. (Up to 80% of the loan may be forgiven based on employment full time in a school of nursing for a minimum of three years.)
  • Student must remain in good standing (continue full time enrollment with no academic probation or dismissal).
  • Student must annually validate eligibility with the program director, Dr. Mary Kunes-Connell, and complete the necessary forms in the Student Financial Aid Office.
