Dear Students,

During the season of Lent, it is good to reflect upon the higher purpose of our University and the critical role each of us plays in fulfilling our mission. I am grateful for each of you and pray that you experience the full breadth of all that Creighton offers.

Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Awards
I was sorry to miss the Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Awards Recognition Luncheon because of travel. It is one of my favorite events at Creighton. Congratulations to this year’s student recipient, Shayla Covington!

Interim Dean
Congratulations also to Bridget Keegan, Ph.D., on her appointment as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Keegan, who is professor of English and director of scholarships and fellowships and the world literature program, brings valuable leadership skills, especially in the area of interdisciplinary programs.

Assistant Soccer Coach Awarded
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recently named Creighton men's soccer assistant coach Johnny Torres the National Assistant Coach of the Year. Torres helped guide the Bluejays to a 17-4-3 record and their second consecutive appearance in a College Cup. The award comes on the heels of the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors he recently received from NSCAA for a second consecutive season. Congratulations!

What’s Your M.O.?
The University has launched a campaign to spark curiosity among prospective students. M.O. stands for magnum opus, which is Latin for “great work.” That’s what Creighton is all about—the great work being done by our students and our faculty. I see that greatness in all of you, whether in the classroom, the science lab, St. John’s Church or campus organizations. The goal is to encourage students to come to Creighton to find their greatness, define it and then take that greatness out into the world. Check it out here.

Bluejay Basketball
Show your support for the Jays as our men’s (22-7) and women’s (20-6) basketball teams enter the home stretch and focus on their final games before their respective Missouri Valley Tournaments. After an away game against Bradley on Wednesday, the men take on Wichita State on Senior Day at CenturyLink Center Omaha Saturday, March 2, at 1:05 p.m.; Sunday, March 3, the women take on Drake at 2:05 p.m. at D.J. Sokol Arena in the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center. Senior Day for the women is March 9, their final home game.

May God continue to bless you all as you go about the GREAT WORK you do every day as a student of Creighton University!

God’s blessings,

Timothy R. Lannon, S.J.
