Provost

Edward "Ed" R. O'Connor, Ph.D., FACHE, was named Creighton University's first Provost on March 5th, 2013.  Dr. O'Connor's appointment will be effective July 1st, 2013. 

Dr. O'Connor has a wealth of experience and will be an invaluable member of the Creighton community as we invigorate the University in the strategic planning process and further our academic mission. 

Dr. O’Connor joined Quinnipiac in 1998 as associate dean of the school of health sciences and was named dean of the school in 2007. Dr. O’Connor earned his doctorate in pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience from Albany Medical College in New York in 1992. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University at Albany, State University of New York in 1986. Dr. O’Connor also completed the management development program from the Harvard Graduate School of Education at Harvard University in 2002. He obtained his master’s in business administration in leadership in healthcare at Yale University School of Management. He served as a postdoctoral fellow and then a postdoctoral associate in the departments of neurology and neurosurgery at Yale School of Medicine from 1992 to 1994. Dr. O’Connor received a FIRST Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke as was the Epilepsy Foundation of America national research fellow in 1996. He was an associate research scientist from 1994 to 1998 and a research affiliate from 1998 to 2002, both in the neurosurgery department at the Yale School of Medicine. He served as a research affiliate in the cellular and molecular physiology department at Yale School of Medicine. His research experiences included the development of a novel method to measure volume changes in monolayer cultures of cells. He has been an active member of a number of national societies including the Association of Schools of Allied Health Programs (ASAHP), American Physiological Society, American Epilepsy Society, and the Society for Neuroscience. He serves as director of the university’s National Institute for Community Health Education (NICHE), a forum to educate faculty, students, and the public on broad national health issues. He also served as the head coach for the Quinnipiac Men’s Cross Country team from 1994 to 2008 garnering four Northeast Conference Championships and recognized as a five-time NEC Coach of the Year. His many volunteer activities include emergency medical service and as an active member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as serving on the boards of Gaylord Hospital, Connecticut United for Research Excellence (C.U.R.E.) BioBus educational program, the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Health Care Council, and the Board of Governors for MidState Medical Center.
