Regional economic survey shows Midwest stronger

With a slew of negative reports out Thursday on everything from a rise in new jobless claims to a decline in construction spending and a national supply manager survey that reported June numbers as being weaker than the prior month, some economists are speculating on a double-dip recession. But Ernie Goss, an economics professor at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., who oversees the regional survey, called that "way over the top."
