Index shows economic growth

The 10-state survey by Creighton University economist Ernie Goss yielded a Rural MainStreet index of 52.6 on a 100-point scale, down from May's 54.3 but still above the level of 50 that indicates an expanding economy.

Probiotic Prophylactic: Bacteria May Protect Critically Ill Patients against Pneumonia

Researchers at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb., recently demonstrated that regular doses of probiotic bacteria given to hospital patients on mechanical ventilators resulted in fewer cases of pneumonia. The findings were published online June 3 in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Bluejays hire volleyball, soccer assistants

Creighton volleyball coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth has hired Tom Mendoza as an assistant to replace Paul Giesselmann, who took over last month as head coach at Midland Lutheran.


Digger Hawkins, the director of coaching at the Gretna Soccer Club and a staff member for the Nebraska Olympic Development Program, has joined the Creighton women’s soccer program as an assistant coach, CU coach Bruce Erickson announced Thursday.
