Narrow doorways, an unstable front porch, a creaky wheelchair ramp and a water-damaged ceiling made life more difficult than it needed to be for World War II Navy veteran Jeanne Byers. A diverse group the Creighton University Knights of Columbus, Rebuilding Together Omaha, Sears Heroes at Home program and Brush Up Nebraska Paint-a-Thon stepped in to spruce up Byers' home and ease her life.

Dr. Mitchell took care of kids

Dr. John Roy Mitchell, who retired from practice in 1986, died Tuesday at Bergan Mercy Medical Center. He was 90 and died after a long illness, said daughter Sarah Mitchell of Omaha. Mitchell also was a professor and chairman of pediatrics at Creighton University School of Medicine.

Benoit Benjamin averaged 17.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game at Creighton University from 1983 to 1985. He was then the third overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. Benjamin played 15 years in the NBA, and averaged 11.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
