Creighton University's University College Fact Sheet
Overview
In 1969, a centrally administered Summer Sessions division was established at Creighton University. That division expanded in the mid-70s, adding the Lifelong Learning Center to meet the needs of a growing number of nontraditional students. In 1983, University College opened to make credit courses and degree opportunities available to nontraditional students and absorbed the Lifelong Learning Center's noncredit programs. Summer Sessions joined University College in 1990.

Students
- In 2011-2012, there were 147 full-time and 196 part-time students enrolled in University College; more than 24 percent were minorities.
Curriculum
- University College recruits and serves nontraditional-age students who wish to pursue undergraduate studies.
- University College offers accelerated associate and bachelor’s degree programs designed specifically to meet the educational needs of working adults. The AcceleratedCREIGHTON program offers courses that meet one night a week for eight weeks, enabling students to attend full-time by taking two classes each 8-week term. Creighton offers a wide selection of full-semester evening courses for students interested in other degree programs or who prefer the pace of a traditional semester.
- The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division is administered by University College and offers bachelor’s and associate degrees in EMS, which includes EMT and paramedic certification, plus a variety of noncredit skills training courses (basic life support, advanced life support, etc.).
- There are 13 certificate programs ranging from creative writing, theology and health administration and policy, to atmospheric sciences and business administration.
- University College offers programs to enhance reading skills and ACT preparation. Academically eligible high school students can take a Creighton undergraduate course at a deeply discounted tuition rate through the NextStep Program.
- The Center for Professional Development offers noncredit programming for professionals in the community who wish to enhance their management skills. Programs are offered on campus and on-site for businesses by special arrangement.
Points of Pride
- The college administers large national programs serving diocesan seminaries in spiritual formation of seminarians.
- It administers an internationally renowned graduate program in Christian Spirituality and Spiritual Direction.
- Creighton University is one of only 11 universities in the nation to offer a Bachelor of Science in EMS degree. The program has a national and international reputation, drawing students from coast-to-coast and from developing and non-Western countries. It holds accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) accreditation. A new Master of Science in Emergency Medical Services (MS EMS) was recently approved and will begin in the spring 2013 semester.
