Creighton Professor Elected President of Society for Chaos Theory
Ivelisse Lazzarini, O.T.D., an assistant professor of occupational therapy at Creighton University, has been elected president of the Society for Chaos Theory in Psychology and the Life Sciences (SCTPLS).
Lazzarini is the first president from a field other than psychology or philosophy. She begins her presidency in July 2007, when the society is scheduled to hold its annual international conference in Orange, Calif.
The SCTPLS was founded in San Francisco, Calif., in 1991 for scientific and educational purposes. Scholars from about 40 countries attend the annual conference to share their interest in nonlinear dynamical phenomena, such as chaos, catastrophe theory, fractal geometry, and far-from-equilibrium system. They also explore possible applications in such areas as clinical and organizational psychology, neurobehavioral science, medicine, economics, biology and education.
