Creighton Alumna Receives Creighton’s 2006 Alumni Merit Award for Creighton’s School of Nursing

Anita Mejstrik Becky, R.N., received the 2006 Alumni Merit Award from the Creighton University School of Nursing on May 4 at the Happy Hollow Club.

Becky graduated from Creighton with a degree in nursing in 1953. She practiced nursing in her husband’s private practice for 16 years and acted as the receptionist, X-ray technician, nurse and bookkeeper.

In the early 1960s, she and her husband bought a farm north of Denver where they raise angus cattle and buffalo. Through cattle she became involved with cattle organizations and was president of the American Angus Auxiliary and the Mile Hi CowBelles. She also served on the board of Creighton’s School of Nursing and was president of Friends of Nursing and the Denver Medical Auxiliary.

The Creighton Alumni Merit Award is given out annually to an outstanding alum at the specific school or college’s alumni event. The recipient must be a degreed alumnus of Creighton, have provided distinguished service to the University or own community which clearly exemplifies the University credo, and they have to have a personal quality that makes them as cultured and of high moral principles guided by the Jesuit ideal of being men and women for others.
