Pharmacist David Pedersen to Receive Creighton Alumni Award

David H. Pedersen, R.Ph., a longtime pharmacist in Harlan, Iowa, will receive the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions 2006 Alumni Merit Award.

The award will be presented to Pedersen at the school’s Annual Alumni Reception and Dinner on Oct. 6.

Pedersen, who attended Creighton on basketball and baseball scholarships, earned his Creighton pharmacy degree in 1954. He and his father were co-owners of Westgate Drug, which he sold in the mid-1960s. He then worked at several pharmacies in Fremont, Nebraska City and Omaha, including the Bergan Mercy Hospital pharmacy, before moving to Harlan, Iowa.

In Harlan, he operated several pharmacies. Most recently, Pedersen owned and operated Dave’s Pharmacy and Wellness Store in Harlan until selling the store in 2005.

Pedersen, a current member of the Harlan City Council, was a nine-year member of the Harlan Community School Board. He has served on numerous area boards, including Habitat for Humanity of West Central Iowa and the American Red Cross. He was named Shelby County Citizen of the Year in 2002.

Pedersen and his wife, Patricia, have three children: Philip Pedersen and Amy Keast, a pharmacist, both of Harlan; and Andrea Jordan of Lake Oswego, Ore.
