Creighton Hosts British National Debate Team at Invitational

Creighton University’s speech and debate team will host a national invitational tournament Oct. 21-23 at the Skutt Center Ballroom on campus. More than 30 teams, representing schools throughout the country, are expected. Featured guests, the British National Debate team, will serve as guest critics at the tournament, as well as debate in two exhibitions. Exhibitions are on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. and on the 23 at 2:30 p.m. Both debates are free and open to the public.

Early season results bode well for Creighton’s speech and debate team. At Purdue University in early September the individual events squad placed third while the debate squad placed second. In the combined Team Sweepstakes, the entire squad placed second.

At a Parliamentary Debate tournament hosted at William Jewell College earlier in the month junior, Jon Kohlscheen and sophomore, Mike Storey took first place in the Round Robin-Cardinal Classic. Jon and Mike also placed first and second as speakers in the tournament. Sophomore, Ashley Hinck and freshmen, James Leahy won the junior varsity division at the same tournament.

Results, schedules and tournament information are available on the squad’s activities at http://groups.creighton.edu/debate/.
