Creighton’s Development Department Announces New Staff
Creighton University’s Development Department has appointed five new major gift officers starting in September. These officers will be responsible for developing strategies, relationships and programs to support, cultivate and solicit major gifts ranging from $100,000 to $1 million for the University.
Attorney Anna Bednar joins Creighton after a nine-year legal career at Brasher and Ginn law firm. Her philanthropic leadership experience includes Catholic Charities, Juvenile Diabetes and Child Savings Institute. Anna earned her law degree from John Marshall University with distinction, and was also an instructor at Creighton’s School of Law.
Ed Cochran served as principal for TCG Consulting, executive director for the Urban League and has held senior leadership positions with Omaha corporations including SITEL Corporation and First Data Corporation for 15 years. He also developed and successfully led annual gift programs in nonprofit and higher education. Cochran has his master's in business administration from DePaul University.
Jeff Dempsey comes to Creighton from the University of Nebraska Foundation, after 10 years of major gift fundraising. His primary fundraising focus was the College of Business, and the athletics department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Dempsey is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Also joining Creighton from UNO is Deb Denbeck, former associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator. Denbeck directed the Diet Pepsi/UNO Women’s Walk, which is the largest and oldest walk of its type in the United States and led several of the athletics fundraising initiatives at UNO. Denbeck has a master’s degree from Western Illinois University.
Bernie Schaefer served as a major gifts officer at Saint Louis University (SLU) for 10 years. While there, he was in charge of the Community Outreach Program, assisting thousands of students annually. Schaefer received his master's degree from SLU.
