Callone Receives Women Advancement Honor

Pat Callone, vice president for Institutional Relations, will receive the Shirley Waskel Award for the Advancement of Women at the Program for Women and Successful Aging (PWSA) ‘s third annual luncheon, April 18. The award, which honors a prominent senior woman, recognizes Callone’ s commitment to education and dedication to older women. PWSA is a membership-based, nonprofit organization that reaches out to and serves hundreds of elderly people in the community.

In addition to a career in higher education for 27 years at Creighton University, Callone has also been an advocate for the elderly. She serves on two community-wide initiatives: The Coalition to Protect Aging Adults, Metro-Omaha area, and the Older Adult Vision Council, United Way.

Her experience as caregiver of parents with Alzheimer’s disease also led her to co-author two care-giving books on the subject. Recently, the American Journal of Nursing honored one of her books, Alzheimer's Disease -- The Dignity Within: A Handbook for Caregivers, Family, and Friends, with a book-of- the-year award in its consumer health category.
