History Department announces Ross Horning Lecture Series Speaker

Kim Butler, Canadian Consul General, Minneapolis, Minn., will be the featured speaker for the second annual Ross Horning Lecture Series, 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2007, in the Skutt Student Center Ballroom. The lecture is free and open to the public

Butler was appointed Consul General in May 2004 by Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs. He joined the federal government in 1986 and has held a variety of positions, including Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Industry, Corporate Comptroller of Industry Canada and Federal Co-chair of the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Program.

The Ross Horning Lecture Series is meant to reflect the many dimensions of Ross Horning’s life and career as a professor of History, patron of the arts and the community, professional baseball player, international traveler and student mentor.

Senator George McGovern was the inaugural speaker on April 11, 2006.

The Ross Horning Lecture Series is funded in part by the Creighton College of Arts and Sciences, and in part by contributions from friends and former students of Professor Horning.
