Creighton Joins New Web Site That Assists with College Selection

Selecting the right college or university is one of the most important life decisions an individual can make.

Creighton University, along with 600 institutions belonging to the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), have just made that job easier with a new, consumer-focused web site. Called U-CAN or the University & College Accountability Network, the site features school profiles that use a unique mix of 42 quantitative elements and include narrative descriptions of each school and hyperlinks to campus web sites.

“The U-Can website includes all major U.S. colleges and universities and provides students, parents, and high school counselors with quick and accurate information about these schools. I am impressed with how much information is available as well as the two-page summary of statistics on each institution,’’ said Don Bishop, Creighton associate vice president for enrollment management.”

He added that U-CAN “is immediately the nation's best single website for reliable and useful information regarding the college search and admissions process.”

Focus groups, comprised of prospective students and their parents, from around the country helped determine what information to include in the school profiles. In addition, the profiles include information identified by university policymakers as important to the selection process.
