Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Award Winners

Katelyn Cherney, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Bruce Rasmussen, director of athletics, received the 2008 Mary Lucretia & Sarah Emily Creighton awards during Creighton University’s annual Founder’s Week luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Cherney has worked tirelessly to support women’s issues within the Creighton community. She created a new student organization called WEB (Women’s Empowerment Base) that is dedicated to supporting women through activism, raising awareness, and education.

For Rasmussen, the award is testimony to everything he has done to support of women’s athletics at Creighton. He has provided personal support for the teams, hired quality coaches, and enhanced facilities, including the construction of the Ryan Athletic Center that will be completed in spring of 2009.

The All University Committee on the Status of Women presents the Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Award every year during Founders Week to persons associated with Creighton University. Recipients must create an environment that support women’s achievement; serve as role models for accomplishments for women; and encourage women faculty, administrators, staff or students in the development and use of their talents.

Creighton University is a Jesuit, Catholic university bridging health, law, business and the arts and sciences for a more just world.
