Jeffrey T. Sugimoto, M.D., professor of surgery, was named chair of the Creighton University Department of Surgery on June 17.

Sugimoto joined Creighton in 1986 as an assistant professor of surgery. Most recently, he served as chief of cardiothoracic surgery since 1992 and medical director for Creighton’s Center for Blood Conservation, dedicated to reducing the need for blood transfusions, since 1998. He will continue in both of those positions.

A graduate of the University of Chicago School of Medicine, Sugimoto completed his surgery residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinic, and his thoracic and cardiovascular fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Sugimoto is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery.
