Unicameral Honors Creighton President with Resolution

The Nebraska Unicameral passed Resolution 386 honoring the Rev. John P. Schlegel, S.J., Creighton University’s president, for his demonstrated commitment to diversity.

On June 4, a framed copy of the resolution was presented to Fr. Schlegel by state Sen. Gwen Howard of District Nine.

“Rev. Schlegel has long been a champion for women’s issues and encouraged women to seek positions of leadership,” says the resolution, which highlights his naming of four women to vice-presidential positions and six women to Creighton University’s Board of Directors. It also mentions his efforts to hold the first citywide Diversity Forum in 2001 and the 2008 Tim Rouse Advocate for Women in Leadership award that he received.

The resolution was passed on April 15, in the second session of the legislature.
