Alumni, Families Make Creighton University Their Destination
Hundreds of alumni and their families will be descending on Creighton University’s campus the weekend of Sept. 26-28 as part of “Destination Creighton,” the undergraduate and graduate school’s reunion weekend. Alumni social events include receptions and gatherings for schools and colleges and University affinity groups, soccer and volleyball games, barbeques, guided campus tours and trolley tours of downtown Omaha, the Hilltop Jam outdoor concert, and a special mass at St. John’s Church.
New this year is the “Evening of Honors Alumni Awards Ceremony,” an event to celebrate Alumni Merit recipients, the highest alumni honor given by the University’s schools and colleges. The recognition takes place on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Harper Center Hixson-Lied auditorium on campus.
Creighton’s School of Nursing will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its four-year baccalaureate program during the weekend. Activities include a nursing alumni expert symposium, a “golden jubilee” luncheon, service opportunities, and a special nurses’ Mass.
According to Diane Dougherty Crowley, BA’ 82, assistant vice president for Alumni Relations, “Destination Creighton,” is a time for alumni to reconnect, share memories, see the exciting changes on campus, and return home.
“The reunion weekend has been moved from the summer to the fall to involve the entire campus in our efforts. Not only is it Creighton’s Homecoming that weekend but the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival will perform on campus and numerous other Omaha events like River City Roundup are taking place. Everything together truly makes Creighton the destination of choice,” she said.
