Creighton University Celebrates 5th Annual Non-Western Culture Week
The public is invited to join the Creighton University Asian World Center’s 5th Annual Non-Western Culture Week April 20 through April 24. This year’s theme is “Image of Asia: Conflict, Challenge and Responsibility.” The week includes a series of photo exhibits; presentations by the Omaha Public Library, Creighton libraries and bookstore and the Creighton Martial Arts Club; and several panel discussions.
All events are free and open to the public.
- April 20: The Omaha Public Library, Creighton libraries and bookstore present “Outreach to Asia and the World through Books.” The event includes book and video shows, Asian image slideshows and book signings, and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the V.J. and Angela Skutt Student Center ballroom. Creighton’s Asian World Center will collect donations of children’s picture books to send to children in North Korea.
- April 21: Feng Liang of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Leida Chen, professor of information systems and technology at Creighton College of Business, present a roundtable discussion, “Challenge of Another Kind: China in the Asian Order,” at 12:30 p.m. in the Skutt Student Center, room 104.
- April 23: Keynote presentation, 12:30 p.m., in the Skutt Student Center, room 104. The political forum, “Stay With or Away from Conflicts: Eastern and Western Approaches,” will be presented by Yong Deng, professor of political science at United States Naval Academy and Arthur Pearlstein, director of the Werner Institute for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution at Creighton. Lt. Col. Mark Turner, professor of military science at Creighton, will serve as moderator.
