Creighton Medical Laboratories to Hold Open House for New Facility
Creighton Medical Laboratories, which performs patient laboratory tests for more than 400 Omaha-area health clinics and others, has reorganized and expanded its facility and staff to better meet client needs.
The public will have the opportunity to explore the new laboratories during a 2:30-4:30 p.m. open house on Monday, April 20. The event will be held in conjunction with National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week. Refreshments will be served.
“We are excited about the changes, which will allow us to offer more and better services as well as quicker turnaround times,” said Marjel Whitmore, director of operations for Creighton Medical Laboratories. She noted that the laboratories handle more than 1 million patient tests annually.
Previously located at Creighton University Medical, the new facility has more than 6,500 square feet of newly renovated space in the Beirne Research Tower and adjacent Criss I Science Building, located on the University campus. The renovation included $4.5 million for a new computer system and equipment.
The facility houses anatomic pathology, cytology, clinical pathology core, flow cytometry, tuberculosis/fungus and microbiology laboratories. The Creighton Department of Pathology oversees the laboratories, which employs 90 medical technicians and others.
