Creighton Speech and Debate Team Finishes Season

Creighton University senior Mike Storey won his second national championship, and freshman Landon Ross tied for ninth in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the National Forensics Association Tournament, held April 16-20 at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.

Storey, who won his first national championship in 2007, helped push the team to a second-place finish overall in the Team Sweepstakes. Creighton placed fourth in its division in Individual Events Team Sweepstakes.

Junior Chris Fowler placed 17 out of 163 in dramatic interpretation, and senior John Zimmer finished 20 out of 196 in impromptu speaking.

More than 800 students, coaches and faculty members from 87 colleges and universities participated in the nationís largest intercollegiate speech and debate competition.

Also participating in the national tournament were Creighton junior Claire Wolnisty, sophomore Sarah Giesler, and freshmen Joel Mapes, Katie Porter, Nick Tanner, Danielle Fiumefreddo and Tiffanesha Williams.
