Gary Gorby, M.D., chief of the Adult Infectious Disease Division at Creighton University School of Medicine, will receive Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine (NEOUCOM) and Pharmacy’s 2008 Distinguished Alumni award during an alumni event on Feb. 28.

After graduating from NEOUCOM in 1983, Gorby completed an internal medicine residency at Bowman Gray School of Medicine followed by an infectious disease fellowship at the University of Utah. In 1989, he was recruited to join the Creighton University School of Medicine faculty and the staff of the Omaha Veterans Administration Medical Center as an assistant professor and a member of the Infectious Disease Division.

As chief, he directs the combined Creighton University-University of Nebraska Adult Infectious Disease Fellowship program. He is also the course director for the second-year medical student curriculum on infectious diseases at Creighton.

Gorby is co-director of Nebraska’s Center for Biopreparedness Education and is a member of the Governor’s Pandemic Flu Advisory Committee. He is also co-chair of the Pandemic Flu Planning Committee of the Veterans Integrated Service Network 23, a five-state organization
