Creighton University Celebrates Founders Week
Each year Creighton University celebrates its founders with a series of events during Founders Week. The events focus primarily on honoring students, faculty and administrators who make significant contributions to the University.
It begins this year with Founders Week Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb.8, in St. John’s Church. Three University employees will receive the 2009 St. Ignatius Award during the Mass.
Creighton University President, the Rev. John P. Schlegel, S. J., will deliver the annual Convocation at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Hixson-Lied Auditorium in the Mike and Josie Harper Center. Following his remarks, faculty members with 25 years of service to the University will be honored, emeriti promotions will be conferred. Distinguished administrator and researcher and faculty service awards will also be presented. They include:
- Distinguished Administrator Service Award – Anthony R. Hendrickson, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Business
- Distinguished Faculty Service Award – Bridget M. Keegan, Ph.D., professor of English and associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.
- University Research Award – Joan M. Lappe, Ph.D., holder of the Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss and Drs. Gilbert and Clinton Beirne Endowed Chair in Nursing at Creighton and a professor of medicine.
- Professor Emeritus of Biomedical Sciences – Richard F. “Barry” Murphy, Ph.D. past chair of biomedical sciences at Creighton University School of Medicine.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Award Winners Tricia McSorley and Rose Hill, will be honored during the annual Founder’s Week luncheon in the Harper Center ballroom.
