Addressing Health Disparities: Focus on Mental Health
Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., a long-time proponent of community-based mental health care, will deliver the keynote address at Creighton University’s April 4 conference on “Addressing Health Disparities: Focus on Mental Health.”
The Saturday event will be held at the Hixson-Lied Science Building, room G-04, located immediately south of 28th and Burt streets. The conference will begin with registration, 7:30-8:30 a.m., and conclude at 5 p.m. The event, including lunch, is free to the public. Continuing education credit is available for some health professions.
Opening remarks will be delivered by Rev. John P. Schlegel, University president; Robert Heaney, M.D., interim vice president for health sciences; and Sade Kosoko-Lasaki, M.D., associate vice president for health sciences-multicultural and community affairs.
Among the topics to be covered are disparities in community mental health care; mental health in minority populations in Nebraska; mental health, ethics and health disparities across the lifespan; legal, policy and insurance issues; and substance abuse and the homeless.
