Creighton to Host Third Annual EMS Competition
Creighton University’s Third Annual EMS Competition promises to be the biggest ever with more than 20 teams from Nebraska, Iowa, Florida and New York expected to participate.
Creighton’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program will host the free event, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Kiewit Fitness Center on campus. The public is invited to watch as teams of three emergency medical responders compete against each other to treat patients, played by volunteers, at a simulated disaster scene.
The scene will be a surprise and re-enacted for each team. Each team will have 15 minutes to respond. A panel of judges will score participants on how well they assess the scene and the patients and their treatment decisions.
Local area EMS teams from Omaha, LaVista and Nebraska City’s fire departments will be among those to compete. Creighton University students entered three teams.
Creighton University, which has been educating paramedics for more than 30 years, offers a full range of educational options, including a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Services. The University’s EMS education program is the only paramedic program in the region that is nationally accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions of the American Medical Association.
