Creighton Staffer Receives Latino Education Award

Ricardo Ariza, director of Creighton Universityís Office of Multicultural Affairs, will receive the 2009 Education Award from the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference. The award, which recognizes Latino/Hispanics who have exhibited outstanding leadership in improving education for Latinos/Hispanics in Nebraska, will be presented Nov. 13. at the groupís annual conference.

An advocate for diversity issues throughout the state, Ariza has headed the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Creighton for 15 years. In that role, he leads the effort to create an inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff through education, political action, service and community events.

The mission of the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference is to develop the skills and awareness necessary for community professionals and the business sector to enhance effective working relationships in an environment of emerging social and cultural change.
