Creighton Magis Clinic Raises Nearly $21,000 at Annual Golf Classic

Creighton University School of Medicine raised $20,700 at the fifth annual Magis Golf Classic, held Sept. 11 at Ironwood Golf and Country Club. The event was sold out with 59 golfers participating.

The winning team included Drs. David Deaver, Michael Guese, Kevin Cawley, and Thomas Habermann and Patrick J. Borchers, Creighton University vice president of academic affairs. Creighton University Medical Center was presenting sponsor for this year’s tournament.

Proceeds will support the medical school’s Magis Clinic. The outpatient clinic, organized in 2004 by Creighton medical students, offers free, walk-in health services to Omaha’s homeless, uninsured and underinsured.

The clinic, located at the Siena Francis House, works with other organizations to provide acute care and follow-up, physical exams, lab tests, medications, specialty clinics and referrals. Medical students and physicians volunteer at the clinic, seeing more than 20 patients each Saturday. Psychiatry and sexual health clinics were established in 2007.

Magis Clinic volunteers also support various community events throughout the year, including pediatric vaccination and flu shot clinics, diabetes education classes, and more.
