Porto Urgent Care Clinic Holds Open House

More than 60 people took advantage of a June 29 open house at Porto Urgent Care Clinic, a free health clinic located at Heart Ministry Center, 2222 Binney St. The event included a variety of free health screenings and sports and camp physicals for children.

Porto Urgent Care Clinic, a joint partnership between the Heart Ministry Center and Creighton University, opened in fall 2009 to offer free preventative and urgent care health services to underserved populations on a walk-in basis. Clinic hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. noon and 2 4 p.m. Appointments are not necessary. Care is provided by a part-time nurse practitioner with assistance from Creighton nursing, dental, pharmacy, occupational therapy and physical therapy students.

Walk-in services include blood pressure checks; examinations for specific conditions such as bronchitis, gastrointestinal complaints, strep throat, bladder infections and more. The clinic also offers periodic health screenings and workshops on health-related concerns.

The Porto Clinic is named after the late Anthony J. Porto Jr., M.D., and Anthony Porto Sr., D.D.S., both Creighton University graduates. The Porto family made a financial contribution to make the clinic possible.
