Creighton Names New Family Medicine Chair

Laeth S. Nasir, M.D. has been named chair of the Creighton University Department of Family Medicine, effective April 1, 2011.

He will also serve as a family medicine physician at Creighton Medical Associates Old Market Clinic and as a professor of family medicine with Creighton University School of Medicine.

Nasir comes to Creighton from United Arab Emirates University in the United Arab Emirates, where he was acting chair of the Department of Medical Education and chair of the Department of Family Medicine. Prior to that, he spent 17 years as a professor in the Department of Family Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

In 2003, he was awarded a William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship and was a visiting scholar at University of Jordan in Amman for one year. He is the editor and co-author of the textbook “Caring for Arab Patients: a Biopsychosocial Approach.”

Nasir earned his medical degree from University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine. He completed a rotating internship at Jordan University Hospital and his residency at University of Nebraska Medical Center as chief resident (1992).

He is board certified in family medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
