Sr. Wright to Receive Creighton Alumni Merit Award

Sr. Margaret Wright, of Arlington Heights, Ill., a 1962 graduate of Creighton University School of Pharmacy, will receive the 2010 Alumni Merit Award from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. The award will be presented at the school’s Alumni Reception and Dinner in the Ahmanson Ballroom at the Mike and Josie Harper Center for Student Life and Learning on Friday, Oct 8.

Sr. Wright, a member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, received her bachelor of pharmacy degree from Creighton in 1962. She later earned a master’s degree from the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy and a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy.

Throughout her career, Sr. Wright has been recognized as a leader in her profession. She served as director of pharmacy services for Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago for 24 years and currently is a pharmacy consultant for Zane Gideon and Associates Inc. of Ohio and Illinois Department of Public Aid.

Sr. Wright has been active in local, state and national professional associations, holding appointed and elected offices. She served as chair of the Illinois State Board of Pharmacy for 13 years. Public policy in community health care has been a focus of her research.

She has received numerous awards, including the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy’s distinguished service award and honorary president designation and the American Pharmacists Association’s leadership mentor award. She has also been named pharmacist of the year by numerous Illinois professional associations.
