Creighton University ranks second nationally in Washington Monthly’s 2010 master’s universities rankings. The monthly nonprofit magazine of United States politics and government ranks schools based on their contribution to the public good.

Rankings are based on three broad criteria:

• Research—fostering scientific and humanistic research;
  
  
• Service—encouraging students to give back service to their country; and
  
  
• Social mobility—recruiting and graduating low-income students as well as others.

“Over the years, the University has amassed a number of rankings that are based on being good. It is just as meaningful to be recognized for also doing good, as it speaks to the very heart of our Jesuit, Catholic identity. Through service and their research, our students and faculty strive to be a force for good in the world,” said the Rev. John P. Schlegel, S.J., Creighton president.

Indicators of Creighton’s commitment in these categories include:

• Growth in extramural research funds to $46 million in fiscal year 2009-10.
  
  
• Students, faculty and staff involved in more than 600 service outreach programs annually contributing 68,000 volunteer hours to the needy.
