Creighton University social work students will be conducting information and service sessions to help attendees get connected to various Nebraska services from 10 a.m. to noon, April 1, at the Heart Ministry Center located at 2222 Binney St. The Centerís mission is to provide basic necessities, educational opportunities, health outreach events and support to Omaha-area families and individuals.
The students will give attendees a chance to learn about applying for Medicaid, Title XX and other state programs, getting information about daycares that accept Title XX, insights on healthy eating and good nutrition, budget matters and collecting and organizing important documents and information to assist in applying for jobs and services.
Part of the Heart Ministry Center is the Porto Urgent Care Clinic opened in the fall of 2009 to offer free preventative and urgent care health services to underserved populations on a walk-in basis. The Porto Urgent Care Clinic is a joint partnership between the Heart Ministry Center and Creighton University. The clinic is named after the late Anthony J. Porto Jr., M.D., and Anthony Porto Sr., D.D.S., both Creighton University graduates. The Porto family made a financial contribution to make the clinic possible.
