The Missioning Mass for Creighton University's 24th president, Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at St. John's Church on campus. Presiding at the Mass will be Thomas Lawler, S.J., provincial of the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus.
"Jesuits do not 'get a job,'" but rather receive a mission from their superior. A Jesuit is sent to serve the people of God in a specific assignment as a companion of Jesus," said Roc O'Connor, S.J., rector of the Jesuit community at Creighton. "It is a powerful, symbolic event that reminds us of the University's foundation as a Catholic, Jesuit community focused on the values of St. Ignatius our founder."
The Mass is part of a weeklong schedule of activities celebrating the inauguration and will be streamed live on Creighton University's website at www.creighton.edu. See the inaugural website for additional information.
