Linda Hixon, a 1994 graduate of the Creighton University School of Dentistry, will receive the school’s 2011 alumni award during a special ceremony on Sept. 16.
Hixon, who has practiced dentistry in Belen, N.M., for the past 13 years, has devoted much of her spare time to humanitarian trips, providing dental care to impoverished regions of the Honduras, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Nepal and India.
She has also been active in numerous community and professional societies. Hixon has served the New Mexico Dental Association (NMDA) as delegate and district trustee, Albuquerque (N.M.) District Dental Society as president and board member, Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce as board member, Albuquerque Astronomical Society as board member, and more.
She has also participated in many community service projects, including Give Kids a Smile and NMDA Donated Services. In 2010, the NMDA presented Hixon with a service award for her work.
Hixon earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University before completing two tours with the Peace Corps in the Philippines. She is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Alpha Sigma Nu honor societies.
On May 17, 2011, she accomplished a personal goal of climbing to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
