Eleanor V. Howell, Ph.D., R.N., dean of Creighton University School of Nursing, has been reappointed to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Board of Directors for a two-year term.
Howell, who was first appointed to the AACN board in 2010, has served as Creighton’s dean of nursing since 2003.
Under her leadership, Creighton has undertaken a number of initiatives designed to broaden the scope of educational opportunities available to nursing students. The school was the first in Nebraska to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and continues to be the only school in the state to offer AACN’s innovative Clinical Nurse LeaderSM program.
A former chair of the Nebraska Assembly of Nursing Deans and Directors, Howell has been involved with a number of AACN committees and program initiatives. She also serves as an onsite evaluator and team leader with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Prior to joining Creighton in 1996, she held academic appointments at Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
